How in the world do I already have another one-year-old?! I am completely shell shocked and I have no clue where this past year has gone! I feel like I was just at the hospital having him!
For those of you who do not know our story, Hawkins was a very big surprise! I did not even know I was pregnant with him until I was close to 4 months along. After all of the issues that we had trying to have Asa, we just assumed that when we were ready for another one that we would have to repeat those processes all over again. But...ta-da! God in His perfect timing! Now, we have Hawkins and he has rounded out our family so perfectly! He is the spitting image of his daddy combined with a silent observer personality like his Uncle Tadd had at that age. However...he has an appetite like his momma and this boy can get "HANGRY"! Just come hang out with us about 2 o'clock every morning and find out.
This past year has been riddled with all sorts of nuances that I had to learn as a mom of more than one. And, not just a mom of more than one child...but a mom of more than one boy! I am pretty sure that I am completely desensitized to the male anatomy, vomit, snot, urine, and a variety of fecal matter. Yes, there is a variety! I am pretty sure that I could blaze through medical school right now without blinking an eye.
We have wore our insurance cards out this year as we have passed germ after germ to one another. We had a cough that would not go away, 3 cases of the flu, 2 cases of RSV, rashes, multiple rounds of every form of stomach bug, several ear infections, a case of the mysterious white poop, and a possible yeast infection of the skin! And...y'all...it is only July! Can we see a foretelling of how the rest of the year may go? Bray said during this last little bout, "I am pretty sure I have had the stomach virus seven times this year!" We are keeping Dr. Cassie and Dr. Ashodian super busy!
But, I would not trade any of it for this most precious gift from God! I am so thankful that He made me this little boy's mommy! He has the sweetest belly chuckle, the cutest gap between his front teeth, big blue eyes, daddy's blonde hair, the bite of a pit bull, and the best snuggles! He loves his momma and I couldn't be happier! He is typically the only one excited to see me when I get home! It makes those long days at the office forgettable!
We celebrated his first year of life last Saturday. As always with me, things did not go according to plan. The party was to be at our house and we were going to make the yard look like a golf course fairway. But...life! The weather was 98+ degrees, mosquitoes were out in droves, and Bray had some weird inner ear infection/issue come up (again with the doctor visits) so he couldn't do any yard work.
So, we moved it to the church fellowship hall and I am pretty sure that I heard a collective sigh from all those that intended to attend.
Elizabeth Goad at Goad A La Moad Cakes did his smash cake and the cake pops. Mary Horton did his birthday shirt and the cupcakes!
Food was prepared by a master of the culinary arts..ME! Just kidding. Does knowing how to make a sandwich qualify?
This was by no means an original party...a lot of Pinterest and a lot of Google! It seemed no one had a golf pun for hot dogs so Sara and I had to google golf jargon to come up with "links". Does it work? Meh..maybe? I think it turned out pretty well considering the only thing that I had done at the beginning of the week was have the cake order placed.
Later that night, me and both boys snuggled down on the couch and went to sleep like a big pile of puppies! We were wore plum out.
We want to say thank you for all those that came out to celebrate our special little boy! Thank you for supporting him and loving him like your own...and for the 14 million toys that litter my living room floor!
